Interning at Youthfront was an incredibly fulfilling experience that allowed me to combine my passion for people with my strategic communications interests. My summer of 2021 was spent serving as Youthfront Camp LaCygne's photographer, communicating with campers' parents via a daily parent email, collecting interviews from campers and staff, and maintaining the camp's social media accounts like Twitter and Snapchat. I took a lot of photos this summer, whether it was for social media, parent emails, or just future promotional content. Here's some of my work!
I was given the flexibility with my job to be as involved with the camp program as I wanted to be. I attended all of the events campers did in order to capture candid moments through photography. This helped me to stay in the know when I would create visual and written content for regular Tweets and the daily parent emails. Parents received a few of my photos in the emails each day as well as a re-cap of what their kids were up to. Along with my camp-oriented jobs and other program tasks, I got to collect future promotional content for Youthfront headquarters such as interviews and videos clips. It brings me so much joy to capture these real life moments that I know mean so much to parents and supporters. I've learned so much throughout my internship at Youthfront, both about myself and about my future career path.
Youthfront has been a part of my life for quite some time, which is why I was led back to the company when choosing my summer internship. I have learned a lot about myself over the past few years, including how much service and meaningful work means to me. I feel passionate about non-profit organizations like Youthfront and about working with kids, which is why being back at camp was really awesome. I'm happy that I was able to love on kids and create relationships while also learning plenty about communications and creativity. This internship taught me to be self-reliant, manage my time, and keep an eye out for special moments to capture. I even took on a side project by curating a fun Instagram for the staff, known as @daycampdiaries.
